“...we are parts of the work of art....we are the words; we are the music; we are the thing itself.” - Virginia Woolf
In March of 2022, Don was appointed an Approved Clinical Supervisor with the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors.
Seeing individuals, couples and families from Vancouver, North Vancouver and Victoria. I help in times of transition and in times of crisis. I help individuals struggling with mood, grief, trauma or work issues. I help couples trying to find their way back to the things that brought them together. I help families facing adjustments as a baby arrives, the children leave or a couple retires.
I started my career as a systems therapist, but have been influenced along the way by Beliefs Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Solution-focused therapy, CBT, DBT, mindfulness and EFT. My recent reading has included Internal Family Systems, sexual issues, polyamory, trans issues and the intersection between Psychoanalysis, Systems Theory and Buddhist ideas.
My supervision interest is in beginning therapists who are trying to find their way, their specialty and their business model. I consider therapy itself a spiritual discipline, in the widest sense. Supervisees can expect that I will ask them about a case hypothesis, including dependent and independent variables, goals for therapy and evaluative instruments. At the same time, I consider it important to take a not-knowing as opposed to a prescriptive approach to therapy and supervision.
