“...we are parts of the work of art....we are the words; we are the music; we are the thing itself.” - Virginia Woolf
When depression and anxiety show up, when we have trouble sleeping or we invent new and sometimes unhelpful behaviors to distract us, very often friends and family cannot provide the help we need to find solutions. We need another, a skilled professional, to hold space for us and ask questions while we hear ourselves talk about our situation, our relationships, our struggles. This is what therapy is. Perhaps you have not had this kind of conversation before or maybe you have had an unhelpful one. It is the therapists job to help you feel comfortable, to be accountable to you, to ask what is helpful and what is not, to make sure every single session is working for you so that life can become happier and more functional.
